Sumcab Projects, a division of Sumcab Specialcable Group – a company dedicated to the design, manufacture and supply of cabling solutions – is reinforcing its position in the renewable energy market with consistent annual sales growth of 20%, driven by its unique value proposition and strategic focus on innovation and global expansion.

Fernando Menéndez, Director and Head of Sales at Sumcab Projects, told Strategic Energy Europe: “We’ve been steadily increasing our market share and are growing at a pace that matches the market. Significant investments are being made in the production of new cables to ensure and extend their service life in the most demanding environments.”

“In recent years, our growth has ranged between 15% and 20%. This has been driven by the large number of ongoing projects and our involvement with major clients. We have increased our internal resources to boost our capacity to manufacture and supply a high number of projects simultaneously,” he added.

Product diversification: the key to resilience

The SUMCAB Group manufactures and supplies specially designed and certified cables for photovoltaic plants, adhering to both local and international standards such as UNE, EN, IEC, BS, UL, VDE, and NF.

Menéndez explained: “Our cables are manufactured using top-quality certified raw materials and, when necessary, incorporate specific additives or materials to protect against external or environmental elements such as flooding, UV exposure, rodents, impacts or chemicals.”

In addition to the photovoltaic sector, another major growth area is the onshore wind energy market, where the company produces medium-voltage cables and those installed inside the turbine tower. The wind sector is more demanding, with key players requiring stricter quality standards.

The diversification and high quality of its entire product portfolio is a major factor behind Sumcab Projects’ success. The company manufactures low- and medium-voltage, instrumentation, control, and communication cables – all tailored to customer specifications and the characteristics of each project and market.

“Our experience in markets such as oil & gas has enabled us to develop top technological solutions and a diverse cable range adapted to the new needs of the energy sector,” Menéndez said. “This approach allows us to deliver comprehensive solutions worldwide, under any construction standard, offering clients the ability to source all project cables under the single SUMCAB brand.”

Technological innovation as a driver of growth

Ongoing innovation is another core pillar of Sumcab Projects’ strategy. Through its R&D department, the company continuously improves its existing products and develops new, more robust and efficient solutions to meet real-world challenges.

“We don’t just offer standard products – we adapt to each project, taking into account environmental conditions, terrain, durability and resistance,” Menéndez stated.

At InterSolar Europe 2025, Sumcab Projects will present its new reinforced underground installation cables (ToughGround Cable) and overhead installation cables (OverGround Cable), the only product on the market featuring the UV+ protection system.

Prepared for rising energy demand

With the rapid growth of the renewable sector and the increasing number of large-scale projects, Sumcab Projects has taken proactive steps to guarantee fast delivery times. “We are tripling our stock at our Pinto logistics centre, focusing on the most in-demand cable sizes so we can respond quickly to several simultaneous projects,” Menéndez explained.

The company has also enhanced its production and logistics capabilities, avoiding delivery delays in a context of growing demand for solar and wind projects. “We’re sourcing raw materials in advance and automating processes through extensive digitalisation,” he added.

In parallel, Sumcab Projects has grown its workforce by 35% over recent years, strengthening key departments such as quality, documentation, logistics and technical support, enabling it to tackle large-scale projects with complete confidence.

International expansion: from Europe to Latin America

Sumcab Projects’ geographical expansion strategy aims to consolidate its leadership in Spain and strengthen its presence in Portugal, Italy, and Germany, where the energy transition is generating a high volume of projects.

In Latin America, the company is actively involved in major markets such as Chile, Peru, Colombia and the Dominican Republic, where it participates in large-scale solar projects of up to 400 MW.

“Our technical expertise and international experience allow us to adapt to local regulations and market conditions,” Menéndez noted.

Professionalism and a distinctive value proposition

One of the main differentiators of Sumcab Projects is its high level of professionalism in project management. “At Sumcab, we don’t just sell cables – we provide technical support from the design phase, adjust specifications, identify errors and propose improvements from the very start of the project,” said Menéndez.

The company’s technical team has broad international experience, familiarity with local standards and a strong focus on providing integrated solutions. “An energy project cannot afford to fail due to cable issues. We guarantee quality and provide support throughout to resolve any problems that may arise,” he said.

Looking ahead: consolidating leadership

In the coming years, Sumcab Projects plans to maintain its annual growth rate of 15% to 20%, driven by new solar and wind projects in Europe and Latin America.

“Our objective is to continue leading in technical quality, innovation and customer support, consolidating Sumcab Projects as the strategic partner of choice for large-scale renewable energy projects,” Menéndez concluded.

With a clear strategy based on expansion, diversification and innovation, Sumcab Projects is positioning itself as a key player in the global energy transition.
