Also, the leading associations like SolarPower Europe, Hydrogen Europe, aelec, and EASE (European Association for Storage of Energy) will be participating to discuss the sector’s current landscape, regulatory and technological developments, and growth projections towards 2030.

21 May: Renewables in Europe, Grid Expansion, and Innovation

The first day will focus on the current state of Europe’s renewable energy market and the growth prospects for energy storage, set against the backdrop of the urgent need to accelerate decarbonisation and strengthen energy security.

Panel 1 – Present and Future of Renewables in Europe

This English-language panel will open with an assessment of whether Europe is on track to meet its solar capacity targets for 2030. Based on recent data from ESOT, with 65 GW of new solar capacity installed in the EU in 2024—bringing the cumulative total to 338 GW Speakers will explore the key regulatory and structural barriers to this growth, paying particular attention to the implications of the Net Zero Industry Act.

The discussion will explore measures to reduce dependence on the Asian solar value chain and strengthen Europe’s industrial competitiveness. In the area of storage, the session will analyse the integration of 22 GWh of new BESS capacity in 2024 and prospects for reaching 400 GWh by 2029, assessing whether 2025 will mark the start of large-scale projects.

Furthermore, the panel will debate whether the European Union will adopt an Energy Storage Action Plan, following the vulnerabilities exposed by the recent Iberian blackout.

Panel 2 – Future of Solar Energy: Innovation, Financing and Scalability

This technical debate will examine the transformation of Europe’s solar market through technological innovation, regulatory frameworks, and evolving business models.

The latest solutions in high-efficiency modules and granular silicon from GCL SI will be presented, analysing their impact on project performance and scalability. The session will also address current limitations in the automation and digitalisation of solar assets, and how these innovations can lower costs and improve profitability in the utility-scale segment.

Everyray will address how automation and digital monitoring are enhancing solar asset performance in Europe, while identifying key barriers to scaling innovation in the utility-scale segment.

Additionally, SMA Italia will outline the role of large-scale storage facilities, referencing their Blackhillock project, set to become the largest grid-connected battery in Europe.

Panel 3 – Outlook for the Solar PV and Battery Storage Market: Where is the Industry Heading?

This Spanish-language session will offer a technical analysis of the synergies between improvements in photovoltaic technology efficiency and advancements in battery systems, within a context of growing concerns over energy security.

The discussion will address the impact of the Iberian blackout on the demand for storage solutions and explore strategies to overcome scalability challenges in the Iberian market. The session will conclude by identifying the main challenges facing the solar and storage industries and recommending roadmaps to address geopolitical volatility.

Panel 4 – Analyst Roundtable: What to Expect from the Renewable Market in 2025?

The day will close with leading analysts presenting forecasts on energy prices in Europe and Spain, the role of artificial intelligence in price prediction and revenue optimisation for renewable projects, and how financial uncertainty is affecting capital access for projects involving energy storage.

Experts will also assess the current state of social acceptance of renewable projects and how this factor has become critical to the viability of new investments.

The day will conclude with a presentation from FES Iberia, providing detailed insights into the regulatory, market, and infrastructure challenges Spain will face in the short term.
