Rolwind, a leading renewable energy company, has achieved the first favorable Environmental Impact Declaration (DIA) in Spain for a “stand alone” storage project, awarded by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO).
This pioneering recognition marks a significant milestone in the development of sustainable infrastructure and the advancement towards a more efficient and environmentally friendly energy system.
The ST Palmosilla project, located in the interior of Tarifa, Cádiz, stands out as the largest of its kind in Spain in terms of energy storage projects using batteries ever presented. With a capacity of 200 MW and a storage reserve of 885 MWh, this facility will be capable of supplying energy to the grid for four consecutive hours, emphasizing its essential role in the stability and sustainability of the national electricity system.
The achievement of this DIA reflects Rolwind’s commitment to the highest environmental standards and its investment in technological innovation in energy storage, a key component for the energy transition and the integration of renewable energy into the electrical grid.
Designed to operate independently (“stand alone”), the project is a crucial step in ensuring the stability of the energy supply and reducing the carbon footprint.
Commitment to Sustainability and Innovation
Rolwind has closely collaborated with environmental authorities to ensure that the project meets all regulatory requirements, minimizing environmental impact and maximizing benefits for the local ecosystem. The approval by MITECO highlights not only the rigor of the environmental studies conducted but also the project’s potential to contribute to Spain’s goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050.
A Milestone for the Energy Transition in Spain
Obtaining this DIA is not only a success for Rolwind but also a significant advancement for Spain’s energy industry. “Stand alone” storage projects are essential to increasing the flexibility of the electricity system, allowing the storage of renewable energy surpluses and supplying them when demand is high, thus reducing reliance on fossil energy sources.
Rolwind continues to lead the way towards a more sustainable future, developing innovative solutions that enable greater integration of clean energy and contribute to the shared goal of combating climate change.
