Yingli Solar is strengthening its regional expansion strategy with a strong focus on technological innovation. The company, globally recognised for its track record in solar photovoltaic (PV) energy, plans to move forward with the development of tandem modules, aiming to increase energy conversion efficiency per square metre.
“We want to continue investing in innovation and R&D, something the company has always done. We are pioneers in N-type technology, and now we want to integrate perovskite in order to deliver tandem cells in the near future,” said Andrés Casallas, Lead Manager for the Andean region at Yingli Solar, in an interview conducted during the Future Energy Summit (FES) Chile.
The focus is not only on efficiency, but also on the adaptability of the technology to different types of projects. According to the executive, the company prioritises not just installing more capacity, but ensuring that each kilowatt-hour is captured as efficiently as possible—an aspect he considers essential for advancing solar deployment across Latin America.
Alongside its long-term vision, Yingli Solar is already implementing technological improvements today. Casallas explained that the company’s current modules—particularly its N-Type TOPCon line—offer high bifaciality, low degradation rates and proven durability, all of which are critical features for utility-scale solar plants.
“Degradation is limited to 1% in the first year and 0.4% annually thereafter, which ensures power output and energy generation for at least three decades,” Casallas said.

From a technical standpoint, Yingli Solar currently offers solar panels ranging from 600 Wp to 730 Wp. Among its flagship products are the Panda 3.0 Plus 720W and the Panda 3.0 Pro 630W, both designed to maximise performance and adapt to different project requirements.
The Panda 3.0 Plus 720W model uses 210 mm x 210 mm cells, while the Panda 3.0 Pro 630W features 186 mm x 186 mm cells, allowing greater flexibility depending on system design.
Both modules incorporate surface passivation, cell cutting techniques that reduce microcracks, UV-resistant encapsulants, and an optimised optical design to enhance light capture on both sides of the panel.
Regional strategy
Technological development is being accompanied by a clear roadmap for regional growth. In the medium term, the company plans to expand its footprint across the Andean region.
“By 2026, we want to place a stronger focus on Peru, which has strong solar generation potential,” Casallas noted.
At the same time, the Southern Cone is also positioned as a strategic market for the company, albeit with a focus on optimising not only installed capacity, but also the quality of the energy generated.
In this context, Casallas explained that Yingli Solar’s presence in countries such as Chile responds to a technically driven strategy aimed at addressing generation bottlenecks in specific regions.
