Wattkraft aims to boost industrial BESS and revive residential adoption through incentives in Iberia

Wattkraft Iberia is focusing its strategy on promoting energy solutions tailored to industrial self-consumption and the deployment of storage systems across the Iberian Peninsula. Its participation in FES Iberia aims to strengthen this strategic line, offering a technical and commercial perspective on emerging models in the sector.

“We want to reactivate the domestic market in Iberia with tax incentives and strengthen our network of industrial partners,” states Jesús Heras, Technical Director of the company.

In conversation with Strategic Energy Europe, Heras explains that the company is working on hybrid self-consumption projects and standalone BESS solutions, with a particular focus on developing tailor-made energy management systems (EMS).

“We have an in-house R&D team that develops customised energy solutions, such as certified anti-feed-in systems and EMS specifically designed for Huawei’s product range,” Heras details.

These solutions, he notes, enable enhanced optimisation both in terms of energy and cost-efficiency. He adds: “We have just received the 5-star CSP (Certified Service Partner) distinction, the highest level of certification awarded by Huawei to its partners, recognising our support and after-sales service capabilities.”

The company is also seeking to establish new strategic collaborations in the region, including partnerships with technical integrators, turnkey project developers, and associations working to promote a more favourable regulatory framework for storage.

“Retrofit of existing installations, new plants equipped with EMS, and access to energy trading and ancillary service markets are key opportunities,” Heras points out.

He further explains that the fall in lithium battery costs is directly enhancing the economic viability of projects, thereby encouraging broader adoption across both industrial and residential sectors.

Within the context of FES Iberia, an event set to gather leading renewable energy players on 24 June, Heras affirms that Wattkraft will attend with a clear objective: “to take the pulse of the sector after the blackout at the end of April, which exposed certain shortcomings in the resilience of the Iberian grid,” as the company continues to position itself as a reference technology partner in storage solutions.

He also underscores the importance of events like FES Iberia in generating platforms to share knowledge, build synergies, and showcase available technologies.

“The energy transition requires action, visibility, and collaboration. And events like this are the perfect catalyst,” Heras concludes.
