During FES Iberia 2025, one of the key technical and commercial forums for the Ibero-American energy sector, Strategic Energy held an exclusive interview with José Irastorza, Business Development Director at Risen Energy. The executive detailed the company’s latest technological advancements in solar modules and energy storage, highlighting a clear roadmap focused on high performance and operational flexibility for the commercial and industrial (C&I) segment.

“We have certified a 30.99% cell efficiency,” Irastorza notes, enabling the development of modules exceeding 850 watts peak (Wp) per unit. This breakthrough is based on HJT Tandem with perovskite technology, a line the company began developing in 2018. Today, it already markets 735 Wp modules, with plans to scale up by 2027.

While the company continues to produce TopCon modules to meet specific market demands, Irastorza makes it clear that “our full commitment is to the HJT line”, reaffirming Risen Energy’s long-term strategy focused on efficiency and technological differentiation.

Smart storage and tailored C&I solutions

Energy storage is the second pillar of the company’s innovation agenda. Risen Energy has redesigned its systems to offer higher energy density, improved thermal management, and modularity. “All our large-scale products are now liquid-cooled,” Irastorza explains, allowing the company to compress 5 MWh into 20-foot containers, down from the previous 40-foot size.

Its new configurations include:

  • 836 kWh battery cabinets for a two-hour duration.

  • A 3.76 MWh container for one-hour applications.

  • The new Stackable system is a modular solution ranging from 42 to 120 kWh, designed specifically for the commercial and industrial (C&I) segment.

Additionally, Risen Energy offers two all-in-one versions that integrate PCS and protection systems, adapted to varying industrial requirements. “We have a solution that reconnects in under 20 milliseconds, so there is no flicker in the factory,” highlights Irastorza, referring to industries that demand uninterrupted power flow.

Beyond hardware, the company has also revamped its maintenance and service model. The updated Long Term Service Agreement (LTSA) is now complemented by a flexible warranty based on usage cycles, allowing for dynamic adaptation. “Spanish clients today are unsure about the best way to capture maximum battery profitability,” the executive explains, hence the decision to move away from fixed-year contracts in favour of flexible performance-based models.

With a track record of over 400 projects and 4 GWh installed, Risen Energy also operates a dedicated engineering division in Madrid, offering pre-sales and after-sales technical support from the early stages of project planning.

Europe and LATAM: expansion from Madrid

Operating from its European headquarters in Madrid, Risen Energy is pursuing an ambitious dual-region growth strategy. “Since 2023, we’ve prepared to serve all LATAM and European markets from Madrid,” Irastorza confirms. In Europe, the company is active in Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece, Ireland, Benelux, and Eastern Europe. In Latin America, it is deploying projects in Brazil, Chile, and Mexico, while also engaged in discussions across other regional markets.

Despite the push, Irastorza acknowledges current challenges: “The results in these markets are not yet as expected,” he admits, pointing to the lack of regulatory frameworks and accessible financing as key barriers to faster deployment.

At FES Iberia 2025, Risen Energy highlighted the value of industry forums for knowledge exchange and future planning. “There are always client updates that open your eyes and feed your thinking,” says Irastorza, referring to the strategic insights gained from these gatherings. With cutting-edge technology, a flexible commercial approach, and international reach, Risen Energy is positioning itself as a pivotal player in the global energy transition.
