The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss key issues related to the energy future of Europe and the crucial role of modernising and expanding power grids in this process.
The flagship event of the Polish Presidency, held in Brussels, gathered representatives of the public and business sectors and EU institutions, playing a key role in the discussion on the EU energy transformation.
“By investing in modern infrastructure, we strengthen the energy security of Poland and Europe”, said
‘The grid resilience is not just a technical issue. It is a strategic and social imperative. By investing in modern infrastructure, we strengthen the energy security of Poland and Europe.’- said Minister Paulina Hennig -Kloska during Resilient EU grids.
The crucial role of modern and resilient infrastructure
Energy infrastructure must be equipped to handle the growing demand for energy, the expanding role of renewable energy sources, and the fluctuations in production and consumption. A key aspect of the future of electricity networks will also be the advancement of technologies such as energy storage and demand-side flexibility.
‘It is crucial not to limit infrastructure development due to costs, administrative procedures or social concerns related to new projects,’ said the Minister of Climate and Environment.
The Minister also emphasised the importance of cross-border connections, which facilitate the development of an integrated energy market in the European Union -one that is more resilient to crises and capable of effectively managing energy surpluses.
The expansion of energy networks is not just a technical challange, but also a strategic and social priority. Investing in modern energy infrastructure strengthens energy security, reduces dependence on external suppliers and creates solid foundations for sustainable economic growth.
‘There is no turning back from the energy transition. Our duty is to accelerate it in a balanced and inclusive way. We must ensure that no region, no economic sector, and no citizen is left behind. Only then will Europe remain competitive, innovative, and secure.’
added the Minister of Climate and Environment.
The Future of Energy Transformation in Europe
The Polish presidency recognises that stable, modern and integrated electricity grids are the foundation for an effective energy transformation, ensuring citizens safety and the competitiveness of European industry. Europe faces many challenges that require urgent action in the field of energy infrastructure. That is why we are mobilizing the Union to engage in debate and initiatives to develop electricity networks in the most efficient way possible.
The most important topics of the meeting were:
- Stability of energy networks : the importance of modernising and expanding electricity networks for the energy transformation, the safety of citizens and the competitiveness of EU industry.
- Challenges related to infrastructure development: regarding investment costs, complex administrative procedures and social reception of new infrastructure projects.
- Cross-border connections : the importance of developing connections between EU countries for building an integrated energy market that is more resilient to crises.
- Investments in modern infrastructure: in the context of effectively mobilising public and private capital to support transmission system operators (TSO) and distribution system operators (DSO) in expanding the network.
- Optimal use of the existing network .
