The Clean Hydrogen Partnership has officially closed its 2025 call for proposals with a total of 212 proposals received, consolidating a new record of participation. This figure represents a strong signal of the interest from industry and research communities in accelerating hydrogen innovation in Europe.
With an indicative budget of €184.5 million, the call distributes its funds across key strategic areas for the development of the clean hydrogen ecosystem.

This effort is part of the European Union’s objectives of moving toward a decarbonized and competitive economy.

Budget breakdown by strategic area

The largest financial contribution is allocated to Hydrogen Valleys, with an allocation of €80 million, demonstrating the EU’s priority to develop integrated regional ecosystems for hydrogen production, storage, and use.

Renewable hydrogen production will receive €40 million, reinforcing the need for technologies that allow hydrogen to be generated from clean sources, which is key to meeting Europe’s climate commitments.

To improve infrastructure, €16 million is allocated to hydrogen storage and distribution, while the transport sector will receive €17 million, boosting the adoption of hydrogen in sustainable mobility solutions.

Applications for clean heat and electricity will receive €5 million, and cross-cutting actions, encompassing innovation and digitalization, will receive €6.5 million.

The Importance of Hydrogen Valleys

Hydrogen Valleys are positioned as the central focus of this call. These integrated projects seek to connect the entire hydrogen value chain in specific regions, promoting economies of scale and facilitating the mass adoption of this technology.

By allocating almost 43% of the total budget to this category, the Clean Hydrogen Partnership reinforces its strategy of consolidating regional hubs that serve as a benchmark for hydrogen deployment at the European level.

Innovation as a Driver of the European Energy Transition

The high participation in the call reflects how innovation is becoming a fundamental pillar for the energy transition. The 212 proposals received demonstrate the dynamism of companies, research centers, and public-private partnerships in the development of advanced technological solutions.
The Clean Hydrogen Partnership, a joint initiative between the European Commission, industry, and the scientific community, seeks to accelerate the maturity of the hydrogen market, reducing costs and fostering Europe’s global competitiveness in this strategic sector.

Timeline and Expectations for August 2025

The evaluation process for proposals is already underway, and the results are expected to be announced in August 2025. This period will be key to determining which projects will receive funding and set the course for hydrogen in the coming years.
Expectations are high, given that this call not only represents a significant investment but also an opportunity to position Europe as a leader in clean hydrogen technologies.

The Clean Hydrogen Partnership thus reaffirms its commitment to a sustainable economy, supporting projects that promote energy independence and reduce emissions, in line with the European Green Deal.
