Less than a month to go until the third edition of Future Energy Summit (FES) Iberia, taking place on June 24 at the Colegio de Caminos – Betancourt Auditorium in Madrid, where over 400 senior executives from the public and private energy sectors worldwide will gather.
Latin America will be represented by a high-level delegation, reflecting the region’s ongoing energy transformation. The event will serve as a key platform to examine strategies and goals related to the transition toward renewable energy in a context of sectoral expansion.
Guatemala will be represented by Víctor Hugo Ventura, the country’s Minister of Energy and Mines, and Dimas Carranza, Manager of Regulation and Tariffs at Energuate, one of Guatemala’s main electricity distributors.
Their participation comes at a critical time, as the country recently launched the PEG-5 (Generation Expansion Plan) and PET-3 (Transmission System Expansion Plan) tenders—its most ambitious competitive processes in years—aiming to attract over USD 5 billion in investment for clean technologies under 15-year contracts.
During FES Central America & The Caribbean (FES Caribe), Minister Ventura emphasized the importance of PEG-5 for Guatemala’s energy transition, noting that up to 1,400 MW of capacity may be contracted, with phased delivery starting between 2030 and 2033. The process is open to both new power plants and existing facilities that incorporate technological upgrades, fostering broad participation from renewable energy companies.
Tickets are now available on the official event site
The Dominican Republic will also take part in FES Iberia 2025, represented by Edward Veras, Executive Director of the National Energy Commission, who earlier this year spoke at the VIP Networking Breakfast of FES Caribe 2025, where he outlined the country’s upcoming tender for renewable generation and energy storage.
This call for proposals will involve the country’s main utilities as offtakers and is expected to be launched during 2025. It will promote competitive pricing for renewable projects that include battery storage systems.
The Latin American officials who participated in FES Caribe and will now take part in FES Iberia on June 24 will speak in a panel dedicated to Latin America, where they will present the current status of the Guatemalan and Dominican power systems and highlight concrete investment opportunities for energy stakeholders.
