Nearly 1,500 expressions of interest have been submitted for participation in the first auction under the transitional FERX scheme, the new incentive mechanism that supports power plants fueled by mature renewable sources such as onshore wind and solar photovoltaic.
Solar photovoltaic leads participation, with approximately 1,400 expressions of interest representing a total capacity of around 17.6 GW, more than double the expected maximum quota of 8 GW, indicating that a highly competitive bidding price is anticipated.
In the wind energy segment, there are around 90 expressions of interest for a total capacity of approximately 2.9 GW, in line with the available quota of 2.5 GW.
“The figures,” stated the Minister for the Environment and Energy Security, Gilberto Pichetto, “confirm excellent participation in the solar photovoltaic sector and a trend in line with expectations for wind energy. FERX is proving to be a useful and concrete tool not only for supporting the country’s decarbonization: the growth of renewable sources is moving in the desired direction, leading to a progressive reduction in energy prices. Thanks to specific measures and incentives for businesses, the costs borne by consumers are expected to decrease, generating tangible benefits for families and the productive system.”
Following the publication of the results of the expressions of interest and the auction calls by the Energy Services Manager (GSE), applications for the first tenders may be submitted from July 14 to September 12. According to the decree, these auctions will allocate 8 GW of solar photovoltaic and 2.5 GW of wind power capacity.
