On 28 November 2025, Huawei obtained the Safety Prime certification from TÜV Rheinland, a recognition that underscores the high level of safety and quality of its batteries, particularly when operating under extreme or adverse conditions.
The award ceremony took place during the Latin America C&I Greenovation Summit 2025, with the participation of key figures such as Daniel Zhou, President of Huawei Latin America and the Caribbean; Manuel Ahumada, CEO of Enlight; and Hermann Saenger, Country Manager of TÜV Rheinland Mexico.
Within the framework of the Summit, José Antonio Perea, Director of C&I BESS Business Development at Huawei Digital Power Mexico, stated that the company’s objective is to deliver maximum safety both for installations and for the technicians who operate them. By offering a high-level safety standard, Huawei builds the confidence required to unlock investment in the energy transition.
Perea also highlighted that Huawei aims to make the operation and maintenance of its systems as simple as possible, enabling certain activities to be carried out remotely.

Energy storage safety is a critical priority, and Huawei Digital Power has demonstrated its leadership by receiving the prestigious Safety Prime certification from TÜV Rheinland.
The certificate was presented by Jesús Antonio Serrano, Head of Standards for Energy Storage System Safety at TÜV Rheinland Mexico, to Mason Qing, President of Huawei Digital Power LATAM. This recognition validates that Huawei’s batteries are designed to operate safely even under the most adverse conditions.
Five-Layer Shielding: Huawei’s Safety Formula
Huawei’s battery energy storage system (BESS) solutions stand out for their end-to-end safety approach, designed to prevent the most feared risk in the industry: thermal runaway or battery fires.
The key innovations that make Huawei’s batteries highly secure include:
-
Five-level strategic protection: Safety integrated across five key areas – cell, electrical system, physical structure, active management and emergency response.
-
Intelligent precision monitoring: Use of multiple sensors for real-time and highly accurate temperature management, enabling 24/7 early warnings and stable operation.
-
Triple electrical shielding: Layered protection (module, string and system level) against short circuits and overcurrent events.
-
Reinforced and resilient design: Enclosures built to withstand extreme pressure (up to five tonnes) and enhanced IP66 protection, ensuring safety even under flooding conditions.
-
Advanced fire resistance testing: Rigorous tests demonstrate that the isolation design is so effective that, even when thermal failures are intentionally triggered, no fire or explosion occurs at a system level.
Launch of the C&I ESS C2C Dual-link Safety White Paper
In parallel with efforts to strengthen safety standards across the industry, Huawei Digital Power and TÜV Rheinland have reinforced their collaboration with the joint launch of the C&I ESS C2C Dual-link Safety White Paper: Comprehensive Safety from Cell to Consumption.
This technical report was developed with the aim of raising industry safety standards and addressing the increasing frequency of accidents in energy storage systems (ESS) for the commercial and industrial (C&I) sector. The document emphasises the importance of rigorous safety design both at the individual cell level and across the entire system.
The white paper introduces the innovative C2C Dual-link (Cell-to-Consumption) safety architecture, which is based on comprehensive protection of the two critical risk points in an ESS: the electrical link (for the prevention and isolation of short circuits) and the thermal link (for the mitigation and suppression of thermal runaway). Through this approach, Huawei seeks to provide cutting-edge technological concepts and directions as a reference for the industry.

Huawei’s certification is not only a corporate achievement but also a catalyst for safety and confidence. Together with its leadership in standards such as the C&I ESS C2C Dual-link Safety White Paper, it helps unlock investment in energy storage in Mexico and supports the technological infrastructure required for a cleaner, more efficient and safer energy transition.
