In the final stretch towards Easter, the Ministry of Environment and Energy, together with the competent bodies, are intensifying their efforts and are proceeding with all the planned initiatives to ensure the smooth electricity supply of the country during this period.
In this context, yesterday Wednesday, April 16, 2025, another broad meeting was held at the Ministry of Environment and Energy, attended by the Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr. Stavros Papastavrou , the Deputy Minister, Mr. Nikos Tsafos , the Secretary General of Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr. Aristotelis Aivaliotis , the Vice President of the Energy Sector of RAEES, Mr. Dimitris Fourlaris , the CEO of HEDNO, Mr. Tasos Manos , the President and CEO of IPTO, Mr. Manousos Manousakis , as well as executives of the bodies.
During the meeting, the results of the response of the bodies and producers to the implementation of the RES & CHP plants limitation measure (High Efficiency Cogeneration of Electricity and Heat) were presented, among other things, and it was found that the producers responded at a very high rate. It was specifically reported that on Sunday, April 13, 2025, the second day of implementation of the Group B production plants limitation measure, 4,400 producers out of a total of 4,950 obligated producers responded to the IPTO order for a complete limitation of injection power during the hours of 11am-4pm, by fully limiting their power for at least one hour, a compliance rate corresponding to 89%. The above results result from non-certified measurement data.
However, it was also emphasized that the Operators are willing to impose the sanctions provided for in the approved Methodology for the Implementation of Injection Restrictions (Government Gazette B1544/2025) on those producers who do not take the necessary measures to limit production.
It is noted that if electricity production from RES exceeds consumption, Operators must implement restrictions in order to ensure the stability of the system. Easter is traditionally a period of mild consumption, which means that energy production from RES must be controlled so that there is no surplus and the risk of system failure.
Concluding the meeting, the Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr. Papastavrou, called on the bodies to remain vigilant and to be ready, in close cooperation with each other, to intervene if and when necessary.
