Udo Philipp, State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK), and Samerjai Suksumek, Advisor to the Thai Minister of Energy, signed a joint declaration of intent yesterday in Berlin for the establishment of a bilateral German-Thai energy dialogue.

State Secretary Philipp said : “With the German-Thai Energy Dialogue, we are creating a platform for even closer cooperation between our countries on energy and climate policy. German and Thai companies in the field of renewable energies will particularly benefit from this close cooperation. This will benefit both the climate and our economy.”

The signing took place as part of the international energy transition conference ” Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue ” in Berlin. It marks a significant step toward deepening energy cooperation between Germany and Thailand. The focus is on decarbonizing energy systems and industry, improving business opportunities for companies in both countries, and increasing energy security.

The Memorandum of Understanding underlines the central role of close bilateral cooperation and includes, among other things, exchanges on energy policy, energy efficiency in industry, decarbonization and business cooperation.

The Energy Dialogue will include political consultations between the two countries, as well as practical formats such as workshops, specialist conferences, study tours, and company dialogues. The next step will focus on projects promoting energy efficiency and industrial decarbonization, particularly the establishment of energy efficiency networks in Thailand. These networks will connect German and Thai companies with high energy savings potential. By establishing these networks with the involvement of German companies, these companies can contribute their expertise and technologies and establish long-term collaborations.

The bilateral climate and energy partnerships and dialogues are the central instrument of the BMWK ‘s foreign energy policy. They provide a valuable platform for international cooperation in the energy sector. The BMWK is supported in implementing the energy dialogue by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) .
