CETIM welcomed a group of Galician startups participating in Business Factory ClimaTech, Galicia’s first environmental accelerator promoted by the Xunta de Galicia and the Galician Cluster for Environmental Solutions and Circular Economy (Viratec).
BF ClimaTech is the first incubation, acceleration, and consolidation programme in Galicia specifically targeting projects in the environmental and circular economy sectors. Its goal is to support innovative projects that positively impact the climate and the environment by addressing both current and future challenges.
To achieve this, it relies on an Executive Board formed by the Xunta de Galicia, Galician Institute for Economic Promotion (Igape), Xesgalicia, and Viratec. Additionally, within the BF ClimaTech ecosystem, key roles are played by leading companies that contribute knowledge, dedication, and resources; scientific institutions that provide specialist evaluation of projects; and investment entities organised into committees whose representatives make up the Council of Entities.
CETIM is part of the accelerator’s Scientific Committee, whose goal is to ensure the selected initiatives are viable, innovative, and aligned with the accelerator’s global challenges. These challenges focus on environmental and circular economy solutions and include specific issues identified by the initiative’s leading companies.
Circular economy and sustainability event at CETIM
Today, CETIM hosted an event on circular economy and sustainability at its facilities, in collaboration with Viratec, to present to the startups participating in BF ClimaTech the R&D projects undertaken by the Technology Centre in this field, which represent 90% of its activities. The event was opened by Lucía Camino Vázquez, Executive Director, and Adrián Rodríguez, Head of Business Development, who presented the work conducted by the Technology Centre across its three areas of specialisation: Advanced Materials, ECO BIO Technologies, and Digital Industry.
“Collaboration is a key strategy to advance research into sustainable solutions, and I’m proud to see Galicia’s commitment towards more environmentally friendly models,” stated Adrián.
The event continued with a tour of CETIM’s 10 laboratories (Chemistry, Bioprocesses, Batteries, Microbiology, Digital Industry, Construction, Polymers, Water, Analytics, and Climatic Chambers), as well as its pilot areas. Spanning over 3,000 square metres, these facilities develop technologies and solutions to enhance the circular economy and sustainability of processes and products across multiple sectors, including construction, batteries and vehicles, forestry, water, textiles, among others.
The visit concluded with Ángel Sanabria from CETIM’s Business Development Department presenting national and European funding opportunities for startups to facilitate market implementation of sustainable and circular solutions.
