Autonomous communities take the stage at FES Iberia 2025 to define regional renewable pathways

As part of the Future Energy Summit Iberia 2025, the panel titled “Featured Conversation: Solar and Wind as Vectors of Transformation for Spain’s Regions” will highlight the crucial role played by the autonomous communities in the renewable rollout.

Officials from the Canary Islands, Galicia, Andalusia, and the Valencian Community will share the stage in a key session to understand how the energy transition is being implemented at a territorial level.

Panellists include Alberto Hernández Suárez, Director General of Energy for the Government of the Canary Islands; Pablo Fernández Vila, Director General of Energy Planning and Mines at the Xunta de Galicia; Manuel Larrasa Rodríguez, Secretary General for Energy at the Government of Andalusia; and Manuel Argüelles Linares, from the Directorate General for Energy and Mines at the Generalitat Valenciana. The panel will be moderated by Emilia Lardizábal, journalist at Energía Estratégica.

The debate will revolve around two key themes: on the one hand, the acceleration of renewable energy growth, with a focus on the electrification of transport, industry, and buildings; and on the other, the need to restore legitimacy to the renewable rollout through social acceptance mechanisms and territorial planning.

The panel will also offer insights into how each autonomous community is tackling the regulatory, technical, and social challenges of large-scale renewable deployment.

From land use and environmental permitting to strategies for attracting investment and promoting demand-side electrification, the speakers will outline the policy lines their governments are advancing to drive a just, orderly, and goal-aligned energy transition in line with Spain’s NECP targets.

The session will conclude with a discussion on the need for unified and coordinated permitting between national and regional authorities, exploring potential regulatory agreements to speed up project delivery without compromising technical and environmental standards.

A Strategic Space to Define the Transition from the Ground Up

FES Iberia 2025 will take place on 24 June at the Colegio de Caminos, Betancourt Auditorium, in Madrid, bringing together more than 400 executives from both public and private sectors. The autonomous communities panel will be one of the highlights of a day that will also feature discussions on storage, PPAs, green hydrogen, financing, offtakers, and regulation.

Speakers at the event will include major industry leaders such as Julio Castro, CEO of Iberdrola Renovables; David Ruiz, CEO of Grenergy; Jordi Torres, CEO of TotalEnergies Renewables Spain; Alejandro Moreno, Chief Development Officer of Recurrent Energy; Rocío Sicre, Managing Director of EDP Renewables Spain; Rafael Esteban, Global Business Development Director at ACCIONA Energía; Enrique Pedrosa, COO Europe & LatAm at Repsol Low Carbon Generation; and Álvaro Pérez de Lema de la Mata, CEO of Saeta Yield.

They will be joined by executives from ENGIE, Matrix Renewables, RWE, Lightsource bp, 360Energy, Jinko, Elecnor, Chemik, Schletter, Yingli Solar and many more, sharing their views on the regional energy future, investment models, storage, digitalisation, and market mechanisms.

The agenda will include strategic panels on the Southern European market, the role of offtakers, opportunities in Latin America, and a featured conversation with government officials from Guatemala and the Dominican Republic on tenders and regulatory frameworks.

Beyond its technical content, FES Iberia will also offer a premium networking space, including private meeting rounds, bilateral encounters, and an exclusive cocktail reception among leading players in the renewable ecosystem.
