Argentina redraws its energy map: investment and regulation in focus at FES 2026

Future Energy Summit (FES) returns to Buenos Aires on 4 and 5 March 2026 for its third consecutive edition in Argentina, consolidating its role as a strategic forum where private sector views, regulatory authorities and leading financial players from the regional energy ecosystem converge.

The event will be held at the Hotel Emperador at a time of deep structural redefinition of Argentina’s electricity market. Following the arrival of a new government, the country is moving towards a more competitive market model, reducing the central role of CAMMESA as the main offtaker and prioritising mechanisms such as the forward market (Mercado a Término, MAT) to channel investment.

Against this backdrop, FES Argentina 2026 is set to become a key platform for debating the sector’s direction and anticipating how the new rules of the game will impact business models across power generation, energy storage and transmission.

The programme will include discussions on:

  • Regulatory frameworks and contractual schemes

  • Long-term financing and investment structures

  • Technological innovation and grid integration

  • Expansion of transmission infrastructure

  • The growing role of battery energy storage systems (BESS) as a complementary pillar in the new power system design

In particular, the event is expected to deliver an assessment of the results of the AlmaGBA tender, which awarded 713 MW of BESS capacity, and to explore the potential replication of this model in future tenders across the country.

The first of these could be launched under the name AlmaSADI, aiming to contract between 500 and 600 MW of BESS at critical nodes nationwide. The sector is closely watching for its official announcement and, above all, for clarity on how it will be integrated into the new market structure—namely, whether CAMMESA will act as the offtaker or whether this role will fall directly to distribution companies.

In parallel, the Argentine government has enabled a new model allowing the private sector to build transmission networks, with guaranteed repayment through regulated tariffs once projects enter operation. Three high-priority projects have been identified and are expected to be tendered shortly under this scheme:

  • AMBA I: More than 500 km of lines to reinforce supply to Greater Buenos Aires, with the tender expected in the first four months of 2026.

  • 500 kV Río Diamante – Charlone – O’Higgins line: Critical to evacuate renewable energy from the Cuyo region.

  • 500 kV Puerto Madryn – Choele Choel – Bahía Blanca line: Essential for integrating Patagonia’s wind power generation.

Leading companies have already confirmed their participation, including JA Solar, Jinko Solar, Goldwind, GameChange, 360 Energy, FMO, BLC Power Generation and Coarco. Their presence reinforces the event’s position as one of the leading meeting points for the renewable energy industry in Spanish-speaking markets.

This will be complemented by the active participation of national and provincial authorities, as well as regional energy leaders, who will share their perspectives on the challenges and opportunities of the energy transition.

The immediate precedent is FES Argentina 2025, which brought together more than 500 attendees over two days, featuring live streaming, high-level strategic panels and multiple networking spaces.

Key issues discussed included the evolution of the MATER market, the consolidation of the forward power market and the need to modernise transmission infrastructure through private investment schemes—topics that are now being reinforced through measures such as Resolution SE No. 400/2025 and Decree No. 921/2025.

With tickets already on sale, Future Energy Summit Argentina 2026 is positioning itself as the forum where the country’s new energy map will be drawn, connecting those who design, finance and deliver the energy transition within Argentina’s emerging free-market framework.
