Two new tools for planning renewable energy in the country are online: the Suitable Areas Platform and the acceleration zones map, both available on the Energy Services Manager portal.
“With the publication of the Suitable Areas Platform and the acceleration zones map, we are taking a fundamental step towards the full implementation of the energy transition in our country,” declared Minister Pichetto. “These are concrete, innovative, and transparent tools, made available to Regions and operators to effectively plan the development of renewable sources, respecting the territory and local communities.”
“It demonstrates that the ecological transition, if guided with vision and pragmatism, can combine environmental sustainability, economic development, and energy security.” “The Government,” the Minister concludes, “continues to work with determination to make Italy a leading player in Europe in the clean energy challenge, without ideologies and with the strength of facts.”
The Public Version of the Suitable Areas Platform (PAI) is the new digital tool to support Regions and Autonomous Provinces in territorial planning related to the development of renewable energy sources: based on an initial mapping of the national potential, it allows for the identification of areas potentially available for the installation of new renewable energy plants.
The mapping was developed using data from Corine Land Cover, the project responsible for detecting and monitoring land cover and use characteristics, with particular attention to environmental protection needs, and other information available in the GSE updated as of April 30, 2025. The content is constantly updated to ensure maximum alignment with regulatory and territorial developments.
The GSE portal also features a renewable energy acceleration zone map, which identifies areas specifically targeted to facilitate and accelerate the installation of renewable energy production plants.
