Less than 24 hours remain until the third edition of the Future Energy Summit (FES) Argentina – Renewables & Storage, taking place on March 4–5 in Buenos Aires. The event will bring together hundreds of C-level executives, investors, renewable energy developers, utilities, manufacturers and financial institutions at the Hotel Emperador.
At a pivotal moment for Argentina’s power sector, leading companies will share the stage with senior national and provincial authorities. Discussions will focus on regulatory signals, investment in renewables, grid integration challenges and technology trends, alongside dedicated networking spaces aimed at closing strategic agreements and power purchase agreements (PPAs).
The opening keynote will be delivered by Damián Sanfilippo, Argentina’s Undersecretary of Electric Energy, who will lead the inaugural featured session: “Argentina and its outlook for renewable energy development.”
His participation comes as the government implements Resolution SE No. 400/2025, a regulation that marks a structural shift in the Wholesale Electricity Market (Mercado Eléctrico Mayorista, MEM). The new framework promotes a transition toward private bilateral contracts through the Term Market (Mercado a Término, MAT).
Under the updated scheme:
-
Electricity distributors must cover at least 75% of their seasonal demand through direct contracts with generators or traders.
-
Energy procurement decisions shift increasingly toward market-based mechanisms.
-
Bilateral agreements gain prominence over centralized purchasing.
This reform is expected to significantly boost private PPAs and reshape risk allocation across Argentina’s power sector.
Energy storage takes center stage
Battery energy storage systems (BESS) will occupy a central role in the summit’s agenda, particularly following the launch of the AlmaSADI tender, which seeks to award 700 MW of stand-alone storage capacity. This process follows the AlmaGBA tender, which previously awarded 713 MW.
The AlmaSADI auction is expected to mobilize approximately USD 700 million in investment, offering:
-
Contracts of up to 15 years
-
CAMMESA (the state-run wholesale market administrator) as the offtaker
-
Remuneration schemes primarily based on capacity availability
These developments are redefining Argentina’s energy storage investment landscape and strengthening system reliability amid growing renewable energy penetration.
On the second day, FES Argentina will host an exclusive VIP breakfast featuring Maximiliano Bruno, National Director of Electric Generation, and Juan Luchilo, General Manager of CAMMESA. The discussion will focus on the operational implementation of the new contractual framework and system planning challenges linked to increasing solar PV, wind power and storage integration.
The agenda will also address:
-
A one-year extension of Argentina’s Large Investment Incentive Regime
-
Upcoming tenders enabling private-sector participation in transmission grid expansion, with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) acting as guarantor
-
New opportunities for non-conventional renewable energy (NCRE) and storage projects
Confirmed partners reflect the technological and financial diversity shaping Argentina’s energy transition. Participants include global equipment manufacturers, battery suppliers, wind turbine providers, solar PV companies, IPPs (independent power producers) and financial institutions active in Latin America’s renewable energy markets.
This broad participation underscores Argentina’s renewed positioning as a regional investment hub for renewables, storage and grid modernization.
Provinces bring regional perspectives to the debate
Provincial authorities will also play a prominent role in the discussions.
Hernán Tórtola, Infrastructure Secretary of Chubut Province — one of Argentina’s leading wind power regions — will join the panel on wind energy opportunities in meeting future electricity demand.
Gastón Ghioni, Undersecretary of Energy of Buenos Aires Province, will participate in a featured session analyzing market challenges for scaling wind, solar PV and energy storage projects in Argentina’s main electricity consumption hub.
The closing panel will include María Cecilia Mijich, Undersecretary for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency of Santa Fe Province, who will address renewable competitiveness and storage deployment across the Southern Cone, with a focus on regional energy integration.
With structural reforms underway, evolving market signals and new contracting mechanisms emerging, FES Argentina once again positions itself as a strategic platform where policymakers and private-sector leaders align on the next phase of the country’s energy transition.
Over two days, hundreds of stakeholders are expected to advance negotiations and partnerships aimed at accelerating renewable energy deployment, energy storage integration and long-term power market stability in Argentina and across Latin America.
