The fourth edition of FES Iberia Renewables & Storage is positioning itself as the most influential meeting point for the energy transition across the Iberian Peninsula. On 12 February 2026 in Madrid, the event will convene key institutional decision-makers at a time when energy storage is becoming the strategic backbone for large-scale renewable energy integration.
The participation of senior representatives from Spain’s Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO), the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE), and the regional governments of Castilla y León, Andalusia and the Canary Islands underlines the political and technical weight of the summit.
Among the confirmed speakers are Carmen López Ocón, Director of Renewable Energies and Electricity Markets at IDAE, and Fátima García Señán, Deputy Director-General for Energy Storage and Flexibility at MITECO. Their presence highlights the growing role of regulation, market design and flexibility mechanisms in Spain’s power system.
They will be joined by senior regional officials, including Alfonso Arroyo González, Director-General for Energy and Mining of Castilla y León; Manuel Larrasa, Secretary-General for Energy of the Government of Andalusia; and Alberto Hernández Suárez, Director-General for Energy of the Canary Islands Government.
The agenda will focus on regulatory developments, business models and flagship projects that are currently setting the pace of the Spanish renewable energy market. Particular attention will be paid to public–private cooperation as a lever to unlock investment in energy flexibility, grid integration and large-scale storage.
Inter-institutional coordination will be a central theme, as Spain and other European power systems face increasing pressure from higher renewable penetration, congestion risks and the need for dispatchable, flexible capacity.
FES Iberia 2026 will also serve as a networking hub for policymakers, CEOs and technology providers shaping Spain’s next energy investment cycle. Confirmed partners include Wattkraft/Huawei, GameChange Solar, Tera Batteries, Schletter and BLC Power Generation—companies playing a pivotal role in battery storage, digitalisation and mounting structures for solar and wind projects.
Institutional voices will be complemented by senior executives such as Julio Castro, CEO of Iberdrola Renovables, and Rocío Sicre, Managing Director of EDP Spain, alongside representatives from Enagás and Zelestra. Together, they will provide a strategic view of market risks, opportunities and long-term investment signals.
The backdrop to FES Iberia 2026 is Spain’s rapid expansion of renewable capacity. According to official figures, the country added 8.8 GW of new renewable capacity in 2025, driven by the growth of self-consumption (distributed generation), the commissioning of utility-scale projects and strong momentum in island and non-mainland territories.
Spain now exceeds 92 GW of total installed renewable capacity, consolidating its position as one of Europe’s leading clean energy markets.
As generation expands, energy storage has become the system’s critical missing piece. The Spanish government has recently launched support schemes worth more than €1.369 billion to promote renewable technologies, storage solutions and energy efficiency. These programmes range from stand-alone battery projects to hybrid renewable-plus-storage schemes and industrial efficiency initiatives, with dedicated lines for regions such as the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands.
One of the most significant milestones is the recent allocation of FEDER funds for storage projects: 126 initiatives will receive €818 million in public support, delivering a combined capacity of 9.4 GWh. Most projects involve lithium-ion batteries, either co-located with solar PV or wind power plants, or deployed as independent systems providing grid services.
The event will be live-streamed on FES’s official YouTube channel, extending its reach to energy decision-makers across Ibero-America. Tickets and the full agenda are available via the official event website.
In a decisive year for accelerating decarbonisation, energy storage is emerging as the new arena for both competition and institutional collaboration. FES Iberia 2026 aims to be the forum where consensus is built, regional experiences are shared, and the foundations are laid for a more resilient, flexible and renewable-based power system.
