Genera, Spain’s leading annual energy and mobility trade fair, is strengthening its position as an international bridge connecting Latin America, the European Union and North Africa. During a press breakfast, Alberto Leal, Director of Genera + Matelec, announced that the next edition—scheduled for late November 2026—will deepen this global orientation as part of its mission to serve as a platform for the energy transition.

The announcement took place during exclusive coverage by Energía Estratégica and Mobility Portal, business units of Strategic Energy Corp, which are closely following the fair’s developments and interactions with key industry players.

“Latin America is extremely important for us,” Leal emphasized. “Many companies are working actively in the region, and governments are investing heavily in energy efficiency. That dynamism and drive for innovation make LATAM a strategic partner for Genera’s future.”

Despite the overlap with other European events, Leal confirmed that the 2026 edition will once again coincide with Spain’s International Construction Week, noting that the fair’s comprehensive model enables continued growth.

The current edition demonstrates this momentum. Genera and Matelec now occupy five halls, totaling 70,000 m² of exhibition space—34,000 m² of which are net exhibition areas—significantly surpassing last year’s footprint. According to Leal, exhibitors presented approximately 800 m³ of technological solutions, and the fair saw sustained visitor attendance even during afternoon hours.

“Attendance is clearly higher than last year,” he noted. “Exhibitors are actively working at their stands, and participation in activities remains strong. We expect day two to be the main and busiest day.”

What differentiates Genera from other European energy events is its cross-sectoral approach. Instead of focusing on a specific niche, the fair spans the entire energy value chain, including electric mobility, charging infrastructure, energy efficiency, HVAC technologies, green hydrogen, smart grids and more.

The event also enjoys substantial institutional support. The Spanish Secretary of Energy was expected to attend, underscoring the fair’s importance for national energy policy. Genera maintains active partnerships with organizations such as UNEF, APME, APPA Renovables, and numerous international associations through its foreign relations division. It also collaborates with projects linked to the construction and efficiency sectors, including VTECO and the International Construction Week.

A Showcase of 31 Cutting-Edge Innovations

A highlight of this edition is the Innovation Gallery, where 31 technologies were recognized by a jury of experts from the Organizing Committee and Spain’s Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE). The selected innovations span:

  • Battery energy storage systems (BESS)

  • Bidirectional EV chargers

  • Smart HVAC and climate-control technologies

  • Automation systems for efficiency and demand management

Energy storage stands out as one of the fastest-growing segments. Exhibitors are showcasing large-capacity batteries, modular residential storage solutions, and industrial backup systems, aligned with the flexibility needs of Europe’s increasingly complex power system.

Renewable energy technologies also feature prominently, including solar thermal, biomass, aerothermal solutions, small wind turbines, and distributed solar PV. The Genera Solar area—organized with UNEF—centralizes solar-generation and distributed-generation solutions, providing a platform for hybrid systems and decentralized decarbonization models.

Electric mobility occupies a major share of the exhibition space, with dedicated networking areas and product launches. Exhibitors present:

  • Ultra-fast charging infrastructure

  • Fleet-management platforms

  • New partnerships among automakers, utilities and charge-point operators

Key industry players such as Circutor, Wallbox, Iberdrola, EDP and Charge Amps display both hardware and digital solutions aimed at scaling the EV-charging ecosystem.

Genera also promotes technical training. In Hall 4, students from technical institutes and universities build live installations combining renewable energy, lighting and efficiency technologies. “It’s one of the best activities of the event,” Leal noted. “It attracts a lot of media attention because it brings together energy, climate and education.”

Meanwhile, the CAES forum focuses on industrial certifications, exploring new standards for verifying processes and emissions in energy-intensive sectors. Several companies are beginning to partner with equipment manufacturers to review their processes, reduce carbon footprints and comply with EU energy-efficiency certification requirements—an increasingly important differentiator in a tightly regulated market.
