The Galician Minister of Economy and Industry, María Jesús Lorenzana, described the new decree approved this Tuesday by the Council of Ministers, which regulates the repowering of wind farms in Spain, as a “fraud against the Galician people”.
Lorenzana considered it “absolutely irresponsible” that the national government is now approving this regulation, just a few weeks after having filed an appeal of unconstitutionality against Galicia precisely for this reason.
“With one hand, the Council of Ministers recently approved filing an appeal against Galicia, and with the other, today it approves the same regulation that governs the mandatory repowering of wind farms throughout Spain,” the official questioned.
The Minister of Economy and Industry reiterated that the Galician government has long warned that the central government’s actions “do not benefit Galician industry, our energy development, or Galician households and families.” She explained that halting regional regulations prevents the generation of more energy to lower electricity bills for consumers and exacerbates the regional impact.
Lorenzana argued that “it is now clear that it was indeed an appeal of unconstitutionality by Mr. Sánchez against Galicia,” by allowing the central government to regulate what, when done by the Xunta, was considered unconstitutional.
The regional minister denounced the “double standards” of the national government and concluded that this situation “is yet another example of the lack of rigor and responsibility towards the autonomous communities.”
