ITE increases its R&D projects by 37% and consolidates its position as the benchmark center for the energy sector in Spain

The Energy Technology Center (ITE) has presented its annual accounts, showing significant results in terms of the number of projects , thus reaffirming its leadership as a technology partner for companies. The meeting took place within the framework of Connect Day, an annual event that brought together 150 entrepreneurs involved in the energy sector and the main industrial sectors of the Valencian Community.

The technology center has presented its audit report, annual report, and 2024 annual accounts, ratifying its activities and sustainability report and advancing its action plan, in which it has set ambitious goals that aim to increase the sector’s competitiveness by promoting R&D&I. Along these lines, in 2024, it carried out a total of 118 R&D&I projects, 37% more than in 2023, for more than 450 clients. Furthermore, its turnover increased by 21% and total income grew by 5%.

In addition, they highlighted the six pilot plants related to energy digitalization, renewable hydrogen, and sustainable mobility, among others. Specifically, ‘Battery Lab’ has become the only laboratory accredited by the National Accreditation Entity (ENAC) to certify power, capacity, and energy testing of lithium cells and battery modules for electric vehicles.

During the event, Felipe Carrasco, Regional Secretary of Industry, Commerce, and Consumer Affairs of the Valencian Government, spoke. He emphasized that the energy sector is fundamental to the transformation of the Valencian Community and that they will provide all necessary resources to strengthen its importance.

For his part, Manuel Argüelles, Director General of Energy and Mines of the Generalitat Valenciana, emphasized the Energy Strategy of the Valencian Community. He explained that “we have the capacity to generate energy and we must take advantage of it to continue progressing as a Community.”

He also emphasized that “there is a clear commitment to digitizing, automating processes, and simplifying steps to promote the development of the sector.” He also focused on the need to promote photovoltaic energy, foster self-consumption, and foster energy communities. At the same time, he explained that storage must play an important role in making the system more resilient and called for a regulatory framework driven by the Central Government.

The event also featured keynote addresses by Héctor Dominguis, president of GDES; Francisco Segura, president of Grupo Segura; and David Colom, director of purchasing and international transport at ALEHOP.

Finally, a roundtable discussion was held, in which the impact and devastating effects of the DANA (Earth Flood) in the province of Valencia were discussed, along with Guillermo Raga, director of I-De Región Este; Román Ponz, head of digital transformation at Global Omnium; Fernando Giner, director of business development at GDES; and Vicente Gramuntell, director of business development and transformation at Nedgia, Naturgy Group. The discussion was moderated by Ana Vila, president of the AJECV (Association of Business Development and Transformation).

With this latest edition of Connect Day, the ITE also wanted to recognize the loyalty of all its members, which is why it organizes this event every year, which has already established itself as a benchmark event in the energy and business sectors.
