Galp brings its integrated vision of solar energy and storage to FES Iberia 2025

With over 1.5 GW of solar capacity in operation across the Iberian Peninsula and a pioneering BESS system in Portugal, the Portuguese firm will take part in FES Iberia 2025 as a benchmark in renewable integration. Its strategy for dealing with low prices and market volatility will be one of the central themes of the solar leaders’ panel.

Galp brings its integrated vision of solar energy and storage to FES Iberia 2025

The third edition of the Future Energy Summit Iberia 2025 will bring together over 400 energy sector executives on 24 June in Madrid. Within this context, Galp stands out as one of the most anticipated participants due to its expanding role in the region’s energy transition.

The company comes to the event having consolidated a portfolio with more than 1.5 GW of installed capacity and more than 400 MW under development, with an approach based on optimising and improving the performance of operational grid connection points through storage and hybridization.

Fernando Cremades, Global Head of Growth, will represent the company in the panel titled “Trends in Solar Energy and Storage in Spain”, alongside executives from Chemik, Yingli Solar, 360Energy, Zelestra and Enlight. Discussions will centre on current market challenges in Spain: low prices, renewable curtailments, and pressure on profitability.

The session is especially relevant given that Galp already operates a pilot BESS system of 5 MW / 20 MWh in Alcoutim (Portugal), with plans to expand it to 60 MW by 2025.

Its strategy is to act as an integrated energy operator, combining solar generation, battery storage, and energy trading to optimise revenues in a volatile environment. Digitalisation and smart dispatch solutions are central to this approach to operational resilience.

Carlos Relancio, Director of Renewable Energies at Galp, will also take part in the event’s networking and strategic discussion spaces. His participation will focus on the challenges of expanding and integrating renewable capacity in the Iberian market, where Galp recently announced a €650 million investment in a new advanced biofuels unit and a 100 MW electrolyser at its Sines refinery, partially funded by the European Investment Bank and Mitsui.

A gathering of the key players driving the energy transition

FES Iberia 2025 will be held at the Colegio de Caminos, Auditorio Betancourt in Madrid, bringing together more than 400 public and private sector executives. Once again, it will serve as the key forum for shaping investment opportunities, innovation pathways and energy transition strategies in Southern Europe.

This year’s edition will feature leading companies such as Alantra, Matrix Renewables, 360Energy, Chemik, Yingli Solar, Risen Energy, Schletter, BLC Power Generation, Repsol, EDP, and RWE, contributing their expertise in storage, PPAs, green hydrogen, solar and wind power, as well as in finance models and market mechanisms.

Prominent speakers will include Julio Castro, CEO of Iberdrola Renovables; David Ruiz, CEO of Grenergy; Jordi Torres, CEO of TotalEnergies Renewables Spain; Alejandro Moreno, Chief Development Officer at Recurrent Energy; Rocío Sicre, Managing Director of EDP Renewables Spain; Rafael Esteban, Global Head of Business Development at ACCIONA Energía; Enrique Pedrosa, COO Europe & LatAm at Repsol Low Carbon Generation; and Álvaro Pérez de Lema de la Mata, CEO of Saeta Yield.

Alongside them, executives from ENGIE, Matrix Renewables, RWE, Lightsource bp, 360Energy, Jinko, Elecnor, Chemik, Schletter, Yingli Solar, and many others will share insights on the region’s energy future, investment models, storage solutions, digitalisation, and market mechanisms.

The agenda will include strategic panels on the Southern European market, the role of offtakers, opportunities in Latin America, and a high-level discussion with energy authorities from Guatemala and the Dominican Republic on tender processes and regulatory frameworks.

In addition to its technical content, FES Iberia will offer an exclusive high-level networking environment, including private meeting rounds, bilateral sessions, and a cocktail reception with top leaders from the renewable energy ecosystem.
