The electro-intensive industry is gradually resuming its activity after the power outage

The Association of Energy-Intensive Companies (AEGE) confirms that the electro-intensive industry has restored power to its facilities. Industrial activity has been gradually resuming since early this morning, and the impact of the loss of power on production centers is being assessed, undoubtedly significant due to the loss of activity and the damage caused.

For electro-intensive companies, with a high dependence on electricity in their industrial processes, the power outage that hit the country yesterday has resulted in a loss of activity on the same scale as the rest of the country’s citizens and businesses. However, industry has been the last to recover power, and its performance has been uneven, with some production centers recovering power 22 hours after the incident.

Yesterday, companies activated the safety protocols established for these types of situations, thus ensuring industrial safety in the face of process shutdowns, without any incidents being reported.

A full recovery of activity requires the replacement of damaged assets and coordination among all stakeholders in industrial supply chains. A full recovery is expected in the coming days. The next 48 hours will be critical for restarting production processes, so it is still too early to determine the operational and financial impact.

The electro-intensive industry offers its full cooperation in the implementation of measures that contribute to the security of supply and the operation of the system, as demonstrated, for example, through its contribution to the current specific balancing service (SRAD).
